I am Anne Kamiya, a self-taught artist of Okinawan ancestry who uses art as storytelling to express the chaotic and contradictory world around us. The imagery in my art is very inspired by the stories of kijimuna (Okinawan wood spirits) and other fantastical nature creatures. All of my creatures live in the world of Boegeob (“Bo-Ge-Oh”), which is a liminal, in-between space that drifts between the real world and the world of imagination.
